Ingredients

  • 1 large round loaf of bread (like sourdough or Italian)
  • 1 pound mixed deli meats (like ham, salami, and turkey, chopped)
  • Β½ head iceberg lettuce (finely chopped)
  • 1 large tomato (diced)
  • Β½ medium red onion (finely chopped)
  • ΒΌ cup pepperoncini peppers (chopped)
  • 6 provolone cheese slices (diced)
  • Β½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice (or red wine vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Method

  1. Slice the top off the bread loaf and hollow out the center to create a bowl. Keep the bread you remove for dipping later.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chopped deli meats, iceberg lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini peppers, red onion, and provolone cheese.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice or red wine vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and Italian seasoning until well blended. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Pour the dressing over the meat and veggie mixture. Stir until everything is well coated and mixed.
  5. Spoon the hoagie dip into the hollowed-out bread bowl. Press down lightly to pack the dip in.
  6. Cut the bread you removed earlier into bite-sized pieces for dipping. You can also serve with additional crackers or sliced veggies if you like. Place the bread bowl on a large platter and arrange the bread pieces around it for easy access.
